Strat-O-Matic 2007 Playoffs

The New York Mets are World Champions!

The New York Mets stunned the Strat-o-Matic world by sweeping the Tampa Bay D'Rays to capture a World Series 11 years coming!

A magical season - winning their first 13 series weeks, 3 sweeps and placing 3rd in Team Homeruns - Manager Bell was elated as he brought to the city of New York its league record fifth World Championship in eight appearances.

2007 World Series

4-0

While many fans were left wondering how many games it would take before they could crack open the champagne, most felt somewhat worrisome, as there was perhaps only one team with enough talent to take on the New York Mets, and that was Pete's squad from Tampa Bay. After coasting for much of the season, Manager Bell was awaiting a six-game Pennant victory for the D'Rays (their third straight). In 2002, Pete's ballclub captured its first ever World Series title against these Mets, and now were back defending their title from 2006. As the Spring Classic began, much of the Strat-o-Matic world was excited as the 2008 Spring Draft was to occur mere hours after the completion to the 2007 World Series. BJ Upton was crowned Series MVP by Mets' players and coaches, and New York shocked many by sweeping Tampa Bay, thus ending the reign of the D'Rays on the league. In an interesting after story, Ben Sheets, who has the dubious honor of earning World Series rings for two different teams over the past two seasons, is now caught up in minor trade talks that may see him return south to the warmer climates of Florida.

For Manager Bell, this is his first World Series title since 1996, and last appearance since 2002. His 8 appearances overall rank above the Atlanta Braves' 6, Lew last appearing in 2006's defeat by the D'Rays.

2007 Pennant

4-2

In a rematch of the 2005 World Series - one in which the Minnesota North Stars...ahem, the Twins, rallied in seven games to become World Series Champions for the second time in three trips since 2000 - Manager Daren was well aware the money was on the consistent D'Rays. Backed by a power lineup and strong pitching, Manager Pete was hopeful history would not repeat itself against the Twins. And for five games these two clubs slugged it out. In Game 6 it was defense that would end the storied franchise of the Twins - now relocating to Pittsburgh. For Tampa Bay, a third consecutive trip to the World Series, and a chance to defend its title - a feat not accomplished since the 2003-2004 champion "Angels of Palmer".
