A one-game playoff to decide 3rd Place was won by the Cardinals, defeating the Pirates - then a grudge-match of a Pennant against Tampa Bay in seven games put St. Louis in the World Series to face off against the Mets, a team they would eventually lose to in another tough seven game affair.

2009 Season Record: 42-34, 3rd

The manager was heard saying how he lost this draft, and that it would take a big leap of faith to maintain the team's success (and his composure) in 2010. A couple of deals made prior to the start of opening day may have helped shore up loose ends - who knows where this may lead the Redbirds this year.
